Only three current members of Northumberland County council will return for the 2026-2030 term.
County council is formed by the mayors of Northumberland’s seven municipalities.
Hamilton Township’s Scott Jibb had already been acclaimed with no opposition when the nomination period closed in August.
On Monday night after the polls closed, Brian Ostrander – a two-time County Warden – was re-elected as Brighton’s mayor and Lucas Cleveland retained his seat as Cobourg’s mayor.
Port Hope will have a new representative at County council as Todd Attridge was elected mayor over incumbent Olena Hankivsky.
Residents in Alnwick-Haldimand, Cramahe and Trent Hills were voting for new leadership during this 2026 election as John Logel, Mandy Martin and Bob Crate, respectively, did not seek re-election as mayor. Logel and Martin retired while Crate did seek a Trent Hills seat as a Ward 5 councillor, but was unsuccessful in that bid.
Joining County council will be Sherry Gibson from Alnwick-Haldimand, Sandra Arthur from Cramahe and Michael Metcalf from Trent Hills.
The new council will be sworn in at the inaugural meeting in December.
