“Suspicious Situation” At Northumberland Hills Hospital Turns Out to Be BB Gun

In Local, Police Blotter

A staff member coming into the hospital shortly after 10 AM this morning encountered a suspicious situation in the main front parking lot. Security and police were quickly notified and a Code Silver (weapons-related incident) was called, temporarily halting entry/exit to the hospital.

Local police responded quickly to the main parking lot and on investigation determined that the weapon was in fact a still-in-the-package BB gun purchased earlier in the AM. The individual in question was apparently on site hoping to visit a loved one in hospital after making the purchase and had been attempting to place the gun in the loved one’s car before entering.

The situation was resolved within 30 minutes without incident and on police direction we were able to call the all clear.

“We thank everyone for their swift response,” said Jennifer Gillard Senior Director, Patient Experience, Public Affairs and Strategic Partnerships.
