Seven Presumed and Confirmed Cases of COVID at Port Hope Convervision Facility and at Cameco Fuel Manufacturing

In Editor Choice, Local

Over the course of this week, starting on Monday, December 20, 2021, we have been made aware of a combined seven presumed and confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 at our Port Hope Conversion Facility and at Cameco Fuel Manufacturing.

“We are supporting our employees to ensure they have the resources they need during this difficult time,” said Cameco spokesperson Sara Forsey.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Cameco has developed and implemented a significant complement of proactive measures to help minimize the potential risk of exposure and transmission of COVID-19. As part of this ongoing effort to help protect our employees, each employee has been provided with two at-home COVID-19 test kits to use over the holidays. The use of the tests is voluntary and has been effective in identifying some of the positive cases that have since been confirmed with PCR testing at a provincial assessment centre.

“Positive cases of COVID-19 within our workforce are not unexpected given the highly transmissible Omicron variant and the level of community spread that is occurring. All of Cameco’s employees are fully vaccinated.”

There is no impact to operations and Cameco continues to work closely with our company medical team and will work with the relevant health authorities as we move forward
