Youths Get to “Shop With A Cop” in Cobourg

Five youths went shopping on Sunday, December 19, 2021 in the annual Shop With A Cop at Walmart.

Shop With A Cop is a program that Cobourg Police is happy to be apart of and has taken place annually for the last four years, but COVID got in the way last year.

The youths aged 11-13 years-old were paired with four police officers and a special constable who volunteered their time on Sunday to go shopping at Walmart.

Money raised was donated by the community along with the Senior Officers Association and members of the service.

Each of the officers were paired with a youth and given $275 to spend at the store. A few went over the limit, but officers quickly stepped up and gave money of their own to make Christmas special for them and their family.

Once the shopping was done, it was back to the police station where the gifts were wrapped and officers and the youths had a pizza lunch.

“The kids are absolutely delighted,” said Constable Cindy Reeves.

“I think more so to be able to buy gifts for their families. I think it makes them feel wonderful and perhaps something they couldn’t have done otherwise.”
