Ontario Supports Campbellford and District Curling and Racquet Club

MPP David Piccini met with representatives from the Campbellford and District Curling and Racquet Club (CDCRC) to formally congratulate them on receiving a six-month, $47,300 Community Building Fund grant. The granting program was launched by the Ontario government earlier this year and is being administered by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The granting program was designed to help non-profit groups across the province sustain operations and help adapt to the pressures of the pandemic.

“I am pleased to celebrate the $47,300 investment from the Government of Ontario into the Campbellford and District Curling and Racquet Club to help sustain their operations,” said MPP David Piccini. “The Club is an integral part of the community – a hub for Trent Hills and surrounding area residents, and community partners. This funding will help ensure that our communities continues to have a safe space for individuals on their wellness journey.”

With this funding investment, the CDCRC has hired a part-time employee to oversee its facility. Funding has also helped with the salary for another employee, as well as the day-to-day screening and sanitizing of the facility. Additionally, the grant will also help with the CDCRC’s monthly hydro, heat, and security expenses.

“Because of the generosity of the Ontario Trillium Foundation the Campbellford and District Curling and Racquet Club is once again able to open our doors to both the Curling and Fitness areas with the confidence of providing a safe environment for our members,” said Ben McKeown, President of the CDCRC’s Board of Directors. “This grant has come at the best possible time as we not only struggle to recoup our COVID-19 losses but have been recently met with unexpected costs from repairs and replacement to our ice-making equipment.”

The CDCRC enhances the lives of the Trent Hills Community by providing a curling, squash and fitness facility that is inclusive, safe and user friendly. The inter-generational club also hosts cultural and community events. It plays a vital role in the community by partnering with organizations to host cultural functions like the Campbellford Fall Fair, Ducks Unlimited dinners, Incredible Edibles events, fundraising events for the Campbellford Hospital, Lions Club, church groups, as well as Blood Donner Clinics, and most recently the COVID-19 Vaccination Centre.
