Authority to celebrate the Drinking Water Source Protection Road Sign campaign. Other guests included Bob Sanderson, Mayor of Port Hope and Mark Lovshin, Vice Chair of the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority.

Drinking Water Protection Zone Road Signs can be found along rural and urban municipal roads in addition to larger Provincial highways.

Over 1,700 road signs have been installed on both provincial highways and municipal roadways to raise awareness of nearby drinking water sources.

These signs mark where there is a protection zone where extra protective measures are needed to reduce risk and keep municipal drinking water safe and clean.

Conservation authorities are key partners, along with local municipalities, in the Ontario Drinking Water Source Protection Program (MECP).

Conservation Ontario’s Drinking Water Source Protection Road Sign Working Group, consisting of multiple local source protection authorities (conservation authorities), co-produced a new music video and social media products to build awareness about drinking water source protection signs and the important areas that need protection.
