Alderville First Nation held A Spirit Walk at the Alderville Health Centre on Thursday, September 30, 2021.

It was part of the “Remember Me – A National Day of Remembrance” honouring the day of Truth and Reconciliation.

Over 400 people attended and were given luminaries to place around the walking trail which surrounds the perimeter of the health centre.

“It really went off well,” said Joanne Smoke, First Nation Administrator with Alderville First Nation.

“The turnout exceeded our expectations.”

“The gathering was really to remember Indigenous and families affected by the Indian residential schools and all Indigenous child apprehension programs.”

People came from Alderville and surrounding communities to reflect and remember.

At the end of the walk the Smoketrail Singers welcomed dancers.
