Update – Peterborough County OPP – Fatal Collision Closes Highway 7 in Havelock

(HAVELOCK-BELMONT-METHUEN TOWNSHIP, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews responded to a collision which occurred on September 16, 2021 at approximately 4:50am on Highway 7 in the Village of Havelock.

A passenger vehicle was stopped behind a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) at the traffic lights when they were struck from behind by a tractor trailer. The driver of the passenger vehicle was pronoun ced deceased at scene. The collision ignited a fire within the CMV which was carrying explosive materials. A shelter-in-place was initiated but has been lifted after the area was deemed to be safe by CANUTEC employees.

This collision remains under investigation. Anyone that witnessed or has video footage of the collision is asked to contact the Peterborough County OPP Detachment at 705-742-0401 or 1-888-310-1122.
