After hearing the shocking news about happened to the patio at a downtown business the community of Cobourg responded.

Friends and even strangers came out to help clean up the damage done sometime overnight.

When Oberholtzer arrived for work on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, people were already there looking at the five picnic tables outside his restaurant. The tables and patio were covered in motor oil.

Police were called and are still investigating checking area security cameras.

For Oberholtzer, he was left to clean up.

“It’s been a long year-and-a-half. Then I find out I have another hurdle to go over.”

But as soon as there were social media posts, the messages started coming in for support and offers of help.

“There has been a lot of community support,” Oberholtzer said as Brad Trumper was cleaning his deck in the background with a pressure washer.

Area businesses came forward and offered help in anyway they could helping clean the oil off of the picnic tables and deck.

“It’s been great community support for sure.”

Working throughout the day to clean the tables, Oberholtzer said he’s confident the tables will be cleaned and fixed and all that’s left is to re-stain the deck. But with the volunteers that provided help, it can make it through the season as well.

As bad as his morning was, with the assistance he’s received throughout the day, an emotional Oberholtzer said, “this is why Cobourg’s home.”

Police are still looking for any assistance from the public in solving the crime.
