March For Meals Celebration This Year is Delicious

The annual celebration of March For Meals of the Meals on Wheels program with community dignitaries is not possible this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, but Community Care Northumberland has come up with a delicious substitute – an Easter cookie fundraiser, with proceeds supporting local Meals on Wheels.

Each box contains eight individually wrapped (and beautifully decorated) Easter cookies from Roda’s Kitchen. Proceeds from each sale ($8 from each $20 box) will help CCN continue to deliver frozen and hot meals to clients throughout Northumberland County.

Through a series of community partners, this program is able to deliver hot meals over the noon hour, as well as easy-to-prepare frozen meals that can be enjoyed at another time. In the 2019-2020 year, 38,347 meals were delivered to 792 Northumberland clients.

“March, which is National Nutrition Month and the annual March For Meals month, is a key time for us to raise awareness in our community about the importance of our Meals on Wheels program,” Chie Executive Officer Trish Baird stated in the press release.

“While we are unable to gather with our local mayors, volunteers and others from the community for March for Meals this year, we are excited to run this cookie fundraiser, which will help further support the nutrition needs of our clients and community members, as well as continue to raise awareness about this important program.”

You can place your order through March 24 by visiting www.commcare.ca or calling 905-885-0466, where you can select a pick-up date at any of the Community Care offices throughout the county.
