Community Comes Out to Support Hope Street Terrace Long-Term Care Facility in Port Hope

In Community, Local

A number of people took part in a drive-by in support of Hope Street Terrace Long-Term Care facility staff in Port Hope on Tuesday, February 2, 2021.

Since January 1, two residents have died and 16 others contracted COVID-19 along with a number of staff.

Last week, residents were vaccinated which brought relief to relatives.

Diane Greb was decorating her van nearby shortly before the drive-by of vehicles.

“They’ve done a fabulous job.”

Greb’s husband Bill, resides at Hope Street Terrace.

“He’s was lucky. He’s been negative. The care they provided to the residents in their was outstanding. I can’t thank them enough.”

Greb was with her husband when he got vaccinated last week and described it as emotional.

“I can hardly wait until the second batch comes in and hopefully one day this will all be over with so we can all get back to some sort of normalcy.”

Casey Brown’s mother-in-law has worked at Hope Street Residence “forever.”

With Brown’s daughter in the back seat of the van, a sign hung from the door saying “We (Love) you Grandma B.”

“Luckily she hasn’t been one of the people that have got it.”

“We’re just hoping that it ends soon because we haven’t seen her since before Christmas.”

The vehicles met in the parking lot at Food Basics then at 1:15 p.m. the parade of vehicles headed north on Hope Street South.

A number of staff were standing outside, others were in windows as the parade of vehicles passed by Hope Street Terrace.
