Ontario Fire Marshal Expected to Start Investigation Into Suspicious Colborne Fire on Sunday

In Local, Police Blotter

Investigators with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office are expected to be examining the remains of the Golden Rooster restaurant that was destroyed by fire on Friday, January 22, 2021.

A witness told Today’s Northumberland they entered the LCBO just before 6 p.m. and there was no sign of fire.

When they left the store just four minutes later, smoke and flames were visible in the basement of the neighbouring business.

When fire crews arrived, they were met by a wall of flames with the entire building on fire.

Embers were raining down in the direction the wind was taking them to the south east across the park area.

Cramahe Fire Department called for assistance from Brighton, Trent Hills and Hamilton Township Fire Departments.

The entire building was destroyed by the flames with a partial collapse of a section on the south side.

Fire crews left the scene shortly after midnight, but Northumberland OPP has been maintaining the scene until investigators arrive sometime on Sunday.

The fire has been deemed suspicious.
