Quinte West OPP – Driver Charged for Going Wrong Way on Highway 401

The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges after a vehicle was caught going the wrong way on Highway 401.

At approximately 10:15 a.m., January 6, 2021, Quinte West OPP received multiple 911 calls about a wrong way vehicle on the 401. Callers reported the vehicle was westbound in the eastbound lanes from Highway 37 in Belleville. Quinte West OPP located the vehicle in the eastbound lanes at a speed of over 150 km/hr in a posted 100 km/hr zone. Officers stopped the vehicle just west of County Road 40 in Trenton without incident. There were no injuries and no damage to other vehicles.

A 76 year old from Mississauga has been charged with:

Drive motor vehicle – Perform stunt – Excessive speed; and

Careless driving

The accused’s driver’s license was suspended for seven days and additionally the vehicle was impounded for seven days. The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville February 1, 2021.
