Port Hope Police – Weapons (Sawed-Off Rifle) and Drugs Seizure

Property found by police on January 1, 2020 led to the arrest of Mathew Hamilton, age 37, of no fixed address. Earlier in the day on January 1, 2021 police found a plastic bag containing a .22 calibre rifle with the stock and barrel sawed off along with ammunition and identification in the name of Mathew Hamilton.

Later in the evening Port Hope Police attended an address on Wellington Street, Port Hope and Mathew Hamilton was located hiding in the residence.

At the time of his arrest Hamilton had a taser on him. Hamilton is charged with careless storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of the prohibited or restricted firearm/ammunition, knowledge of an unauthorized firearm, possession of a prohibited device or ammunition for a dangerous purpose x2, and possession of a schedule I substance believed to be crystal meth.

Hamilton was held for a bail hearing and is still in custody. Hamilton is back in court on January 7, 2021.
