In a year where there has been so much stress and heartache it was something that was needed.

Three “wonderful ladies” from Port Hope drove over to David’s No Frills in Cobourg and gave away over $1,000 to strangers by spreading some Christmas cheer.

There was no connection to the people, the women just thought in a year where there has been so much pain, it was time to spread some joy.

It not only brought tears to the three women and to the recipients, it did to those watching as well.

John and Leanne Lee were in line placing their items on the belt at cashout when one of the stranger walked up and said “don’t worrying about paying for this, I’ve got this covered for you.”

“I said, “you’re joking,” said Leanne.

“Because usually you see this stuff on a show, but she said she was serious.”

Leanne was brought to tears as she was bagging her groceries.

The couple have two children aged 13 and 10-years-old and the groceries will cover two-weeks.

When it was finished, the bill came to nearly $300.00. The woman walked up and paid the bill.

Strangers helping strangers in a time when the world needs a smile the most.

A time when people just need to breath and not worry – even for a short time.

The Lee’s got that on Saturday in Cobourg and they couldn’t have been more grateful.

“It’s amazing. I can’t believe it with all the money we’ve been spending on Christmas,” said John.

“And then someone to do this for us, I never imagined someone to do this for us.”

The couple both said simultaneously, “we’re very thankful.”

“I’m still shaking,” Leanne said standing outside the grocery store.

The three woman then walked around the store for approximately 30-minutes handing out $50 gift cards.

Recipients were left in shock.

“I’m speechless,” said one person.

“It’s a huge help. Especially this year when there is so much stress.”

One of the gift cards was given to a couple who had just bought a home. Another who are having financial trouble.

Another person said, “I’m not worthy.”

Another couple were taken aback, smiled and said, “it’s nice to see people like that.

When all the cards were handed out, the woman stopped, looked at each other, then hugged.

Outside one of the woman said, “that was fun.”

“I think sometimes people forget about the working poor. Just because a couple are working doesn’t mean they are alright financially.”

All the woman work in a factory, but just wanted to give something to others during Christmas.

“I’m working and I’m still working. But I have my kids taken care of with Christmas presents.”

The women said they don’t know who the people are they gave the gifts too and don’t want to know.

“We just wanted to brighten someone’s day.”
