Northumberland OPP – Officer Assaulted During Domestic Incident

(CRAMAHE TOWNSHIP, ON) – On Wednesday October 21, 2020, officers from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence north of the village of Castleton, which resulted in an officer being assaulted and three individuals being arrested.

Just after 8:00 pm, officers attended the location and observed an individual with what appeared to be a firearm. While attempting to protect the victim and secure the alleged weapon, a physical altercation ensued resulting in the officer having to be treated at a local area hospital for minor injuries.

A 27-year-old female from Peterborough, Ontario, and a 27-year-old female from Cramahe Township, Ontario, were arrested and each charged with one count of assault and one count of assault peace officer. The accused female from Cramahe Township was additionally charged with uttering threats to damage property.

Both accused were released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on a date in January 2021.

A third individual, a 21-year-old male from Peterborough, Ontario, was arrested and charged for possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, and two charges related to bail violations. He was held for a bail hearing in Cobourg on October 22, 2020.

The identities of the three accused will be withheld in effort to protect the victim’s identity.
