A fire that destroyed a barn in Hamilton Township on Saturday, September 12, 2020 is under investigation.

Hamilton Township Fire Department was dispatched to the barn located at Clarke McKinlay Road (south of County Road 9/Oak Ridges Drive) south of Gores Landing shortly after 2 p.m.

Deputy Chief Mike Robinson said when fire crews arrived on scene, there was heavy smoke coming from the east side of the metal framed barn which is 40′ x 200′ in size.

Assistance was requested from Port Hope Fire Department and Alnwick/Haldimand Fire Department with manpower and tanker trucks to shuttle in water to the scene.

Robinson said the fire was two well involved to send fire crews in, so it was strictly a defensive attack.

The barn had two levels inside, one being a basement.

Tanker trucks filled up at the Gores Landing boat launch to shuttle water to the fire.

Damage is unknown at the present time, and Northumberland OPP are holding the scene for further investigation.
