Canadian Coast Guard Crew Arrives Just In Time For Stuck Sailboat

In Editor Choice, Local

The crew from the Canadian Coast Guard ship Cape Rescue saved the day for a sailboat stuck at the entrance to Port Hope Harbour on Saturday, August 16, 2020.

At approximately 4 p.m. emergency services including Northumberland OPP, Port Hope Police and Port Hope Fire Department were notified of a 30-foot sailboat stuck just inside the entrance to Port Hope Harbour.

One person was on-board the sailboat which was getting very close to the rock break-wall.

Port Hope Fire Department has a small boat, but would have been unable to remove the vessel from being stuck.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre dispatched the crew of the Cape Rescue who were able to attach a line of the vessel and free it.

The sailboat was towed to Cobourg Harbour and it`s believed the vessel sustained no serious damage.
