Suspect Arrested Following Pharmacy Robbery in Whitby

Police arrested one male after a pharmacy was robbed and one person confined for two hours.

On Friday May 11, 2018, at approximately 10:15 a.m., a male entered a pharmacy on Dundas Street West in Whitby and produced a knife. He demanded an employee open the narcotics safe and lock the doors to the pharmacy. The employee was confined in the building for about two hours while the male ingested a quantity of drugs in an effort to harm himself.

The male then left the pharmacy and police were contacted. The male was located a short time later at a residence and arrested without incident. He was taken to hospital where was treated and released.  The employee was not physically harmed.

A 43-year-old male is charged with Robbery; Forcible Confinement and Weapons Dangerous.  He was held for a bail hearing.
