It’s no secret that a good portion of the time municipal councils are boring.

But on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 a bat livened things up at Cobourg Council. During a regular council meeting a bat somehow got into council chambers at Victoria Hall and Mayor John Henderson called a brief recess to deal with the matter.

No one moved from their seats in the gallery to see how it would be handled. A number of councillors  jumped into action, took off their suit jackets and took unsuccessful swings at the bat to no avail.

In the end, approximately 10 minutes later, the bat flew into a committee room and the town clerk quickly shut the doors. Maintenance staff were then called to deal with the matter and council resumed.
