Northumberland OPP – Inmate Charged After Staff Member Assaulted at Warkworth Institution

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid a charge in connection with an assault at Warkworth Institution

On July 10, 2026, shortly after 5:00 p.m., police received a report that a staff member had been assaulted by an inmate at the facility. The staff member was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the investigation, a warrant was obtained for the arrest of the accused. On August 8, 2026, OPP officers took the individual into custody.

A 25-year-old male has been charged with:

· Assault peace officer – cause bodily harm

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg later this month.
