Alnwick-Haldimand Fills Benns Vacancy

The Alnwick-Haldimand Township council has announced the appointment of Greg Booth of Community Centre Road as the new councillor to fill the vacancy created by the March 21 death of Raymond Benns.

A long-serving councillor and past deputy mayor, Benns was re-elected in the October 2018 election, The appointment process to fill this vacancy was approved by council in April under the Municipal Act 2001. Council listened to presentations by seven prospective candidates for the position, then voted for Booth’s appointment.

The township press release notes that his swearing-in will take place at the regular June 6 meeting of council.

“Township council expects that Mr. Booth will be an excellent representative for the Township of Alnwick-Haldimand,” it stated.
