Over the past few weeks, a number of suspicious fires have damaged property in our community.
On behalf of Council, I want to share my condolences with those who have lost property as well as, in some cases, important pieces of history and heritage.
I also want to thank our emergency services personnel for their rapid response and professionalism in dealing with these incidents. I have been in regular contact with authorities from our local fire, police and paramedic services, and have directly expressed Council’s full support and appreciation for their ongoing coordinated efforts to keep our community safe.
I would urge our residents to assist police with ongoing investigations into these fires by calling in tips to the Northumberland OPP at (905) 372-5421 or by calling the nonemergency line (888) 310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call the Peterborough/Northumberland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit information online at http://www.stopcrimehere.ca.
