Phillip Lawrence Wins Nomination for Conservative Party of Canada for Northumberland-Peterborough South

In National

Phillip Lawrence was elected as the Conservative Party of Canada candidate for Northumberland-Peterborough South in Cobourg on March 2, 2019.
Lawrence came up as the winner against other candidates Grant Dingwall, Sarah Honey, Mark Walas, and John Sorrell.
At the end of a long wait before the winner was announced, all five candidates were taken into a room for a few moments then as each one exited the room, Lawrence looked over at his supporters, gave a smile and thumbs up before all five took to the stage.
Vice President of Northumberland-Peterborough South Electoral District Association Bob Dodd announced Lawrence as the winner much to the delight of the people in the room.
During the acceptance speech by Lawrence he first thanked the “absolutely amazing candidates.”
“This is a time to come together – we are going to advocate for our rural communities.”
“We’ve got a great team and I can’t wait to beat Kim Rudd.”
Speaking to Today’s Northumberland after the announcement Lawrence said the electorate is very engaged in the riding.
“I think the Conservative Party is energized and I’m very positive and confident going into the next election.”
“We’ve had 800 members come out today and we now need to keep those people engaged and we do that with the exceptional leadership of Andrew Scheer.”
First and foremost Lawrence said he wants to meet as many people as he can and learn about getting people’s perspectives to take to Ottawa.
Lawrence said it’s been a long road for the nomination process.
“It’s been a lot of work and a lot of hours and I haven’t been able to spend as much time with my kids (ages 3 and 5) as I’d like too. For their sacrifices it warms my heart and my little buddy coming up and saying “I love you” it’s worth a million dollars.”
Vice President of Northumberland-Peterborough South Electoral District Association Bob Dodd said when the process started there were 800 members, but that has more than doubled with over 1,600 members the day of the ballot at St. Mary School in Cobourg.
“Last time around we had two candidates, this time around we had five, the riding has changed a bit and we had five excellent candidates.”
