Coldest Night Of The Year Walk Raises Record Amount In Port Hope

In News

It was the fourth year for the annual Coldest Night Of The Year Walk in Port Hope.
Over 230 participants took part in the two or five kilometre walk which started at the Port Hope High School on Saturday evening.
The goal for this year was $42,000, but over $50,000 was raised for Green Wood Coalition.“The community has really embraced it,” said Community Director Dave Sheffield.
“There is a lot more awareness and social struggles now then in the past. And people wanting to get out with their families and help the kids understand what is going in communities.”
Over $150,000 has been raised in the last four years for Green Wood Coalition
Across Canada over 200 communities took part each raising funds for their own communities.
The money raised from the walk supports outreach programs because Green Wood Coalition doesn’t have any sustainable funding. Last year a third of year’s budget was raised through the Coldest Night of the Year walk.
