Fire In Cobourg Sends One Person To Hospital

An afternoon fire sent one person to hospital and caused extensive damage to a housing unit in Cobourg on November 22, 2018.
The fire was located at 330 Alexandria Drive in Cobourg was reported shortly after 1 p.m.
When fire crews arrived there was heavy smoke coming from the building.
Joe Stacey who resides a few doors down from the fire said he noticed smoke billowing out of the residence and a woman was screaming to call 9-1-1.
The woman was stating her kitchen was on fire.
Captain Todd Wilson said two firefighters made a quick interior attack and extinguished the blaze around the stove and kitchen area of the two-storey unit.
“The kitchen has been fairly consumed. The cupboards have all been consumed, but no significant (fire) extension.”
“They’ll be out of the unit for sometime.”
One woman was at home at the time of the fire and was transported to hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries. Her two children were not at home at the time of the fire.
Two other neighbouring units were also evacuated, but the residents were allowed to return.
A cat from a neighbouring unit that was outside being held by its owner ran off during the commotion and has yet to be located. The cats name is Leo and if anyone sees the cat please contact the Cobourg Fire Department at 905-372-9789.
Damage is estimated in excess of $80,000.
