Ontario University Softball is set to launch its 25th season as a league this weekend with an Opening Weekend showcase in Cobourg.

The showcase is the first in recent memory for OUS and will feature all 12 women’s teams in the league: the Brock Badgers, Guelph Gryphons, Laurier Golden Hawks, McMaster Marauders, Ottawa Gee-Gees, Queen’s Gaels, Toronto Metropolitan University Bold, University of Toronto Varsity Blues, Waterloo Warriors, Western Mustangs, Windsor Lancers and York Lions.

Twenty-four games are scheduled throughout the weekend, with 23 taking place at Legion Fields in Cobourg. The OUS website lists the lone game outside Cobourg will be Saturday at 5 p.m. in Baltimore, where Toronto Metropolitan University will face Brock.

Cobourg Angels president Aaron Gaudet told Today’s Northumberland that local connections include Grafton’s Mya Watson, who will be competing for McMaster, while Cobourg’s Reagan Lalande, a former player, is now coaching with Brock.

Gaudet said it’s great to offer this Showcase for Angels players to watch, noting the organization had just three rep teams a few years ago, but will have six representing Cobourg next season.

“The reason this showcase is great for us to host is to display what high-level fastball is played in Ontario and that there are opportunities for these athletes to stay in the province to compete while also getting an education.”

On its website, OUS stated, “the Executive team would like to thank the Cobourg Angels Softball Association for offering to host the 2026 Showcase Weekend. We appreciate you, and look forward to showcasing some great games opening weekend.”
