Beyond the Blue Box Celebrates 2026 Scholarship Recipients

In Community, Local

It was a special day at Beyond the Blue Box in Cobourg on Wednesday, August 19, as three outstanding young people were recognized with scholarships supporting their education and future goals.

Katia Legakis and Brodie Johnson were each presented with the Syd Chatwood Memorial Scholarship for Inclusion, while Megan Stokes received the Beyond the Blue Box Environmental Scholarship.

Beyond the Blue Box Executive Director Jane Stevenson said the organization was proud to honour the three recipients.

“We know that Syd Chatwood would have been absolutely overjoyed with the individuals chosen to receive the scholarships that carry his name,” said Stevenson.

“Syd believed deeply in people, inclusion, opportunity, and the importance of giving everyone the chance to reach their full potential.”

Stevenson said Legakis and Johnson are strong representatives of the values that were important to Chatwood.

“They are wonderful representatives of those values, and we could not be more pleased to honour Syd’s memory through them,” she said.

The organization also recognized Stokes for her commitment to environmental values.

“We are equally proud to recognize Megan with our Environmental Scholarship,” said Stevenson. “Caring for our environment and encouraging the next generation to continue that work is at the very heart of what Beyond the Blue Box has stood for throughout our history.”

The scholarships reflect Beyond the Blue Box’s commitment to supporting young people as they pursue their education and take the next steps toward their futures.

The organization says investing in young people is an investment not only in their individual futures, but in the future of the entire community.
