City of Kawartha Lakes OPP – Pickup Truck Found in Canal Near Balsam Lake

Members from the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to the canal west of Balsam Lake for a fully submerged pick-up truck.

On Saturday August 15, 2026 at approximately 12:23 pm officers responded to reports of a fully submerged pick-up truck in the canal. Officers were dispatched to the scene, the OPP Underwater Search and Rescue Unit (USRU) were in the area searching for an unrelated missing aircraft and responded as well . The pick-up truck was believed to be unoccupied. Recovery efforts commenced and the pick-up truck was removed from the canal.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has footage from the area at the time of the incident is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
