An 18-year-old Camborne man is facing multiple charges after allegedly fleeing from police on two separate occasions over the weekend in Cobourg.
On July 11, 2026, at approximately 7:45 p.m., police were conducting traffic enforcement in the area of D’Arcy Street and Elgin Street East when they attempted to stop a vehicle for Highway Traffic Act violations. The driver failed to stop and fled the area. Officers did not pursue the vehicle in the interest of public safety.
The following evening, July 12, 2026, at approximately 10:15 p.m., police on general patrol observed the same vehicle. Upon seeing the marked police cruiser, the driver accelerated away at a high rate of speed and extinguished the vehicle’s lights.
As a result of the police investigation, police identified the suspected driver and located both the individual and the vehicle. An 18-year-old Camborne man was arrested. During the arrest, officers seized a prohibited knife. The man was charged with two counts of Flight from Peace Officer, two counts of Dangerous Operation, Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt, Fail to Display Two Licence Plates, and Drive Motor Vehicle Without Proper Rear Light.
The accused was released on an undertaking and Part III Summons with a future court date. The vehicle was impounded for 14 days, and the driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days.
A 28-year-old Oakville man is facing multiple charges after police responded to a report of shoplifting Friday evening.
On July 10, 2026, at approximately 6:10 p.m., police responded to a report of a theft from a business in the area of Albert Street and Third Street in Cobourg. Police were advised that an individual had left the store without paying for merchandise.
Police located a man matching the description provided. When approached by police, the individual fled on foot. Police located the man. An arrest was initiated, and the suspect became combative. A Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) was deployed but was unsuccessful in stopping the suspect, who fled. Police arrested the man a short time later in a parking lot near McGill Street and Queen Street.
During the arrest, police recovered stolen property and located several cans of spray paint, which the accused was prohibited from possessing due to conditions of a release order.
As a result of the investigation, a 28-year-old Oakville man was charged with Theft Under $5,000, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest, and two counts of Failure to Comply with a Release Order. The accused was held in custody pending a Show Cause Hearing.
Three individuals, including one youth and two adults, are facing charges following an assault investigation in Cobourg.
On June 5, 2026, at approximately 1:30 a.m., police responded to a disturbance at a residential building in the area of King Street East and Cottesmore Avenue. The investigation determined that a physical altercation had occurred between a group of individuals in the building’s hallway. One individual was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. As a result of the investigation, police identified three suspects.
On June 29, 2026, a 14-year-old Cobourg youth was arrested and charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm. The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date.
On July 2, 2026, an 18-year-old Cobourg woman was arrested. Upon arrest, a quantity of Fentanyl was located. She was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid Other Than Heroin, and Breach of Recognizance. The accused was held for a bail hearing and subsequently released on a release order with a future court date.
On July 12, 2026, a 27-year-old Whitby man was located by a partner police service, transported to Cobourg, arrested, and charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm. The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date.
