The Greater Metro Jr. A Hockey League will have a second team in Northumberland County for the 2026-2027 season with the addition of the Brighton Vikings.

Brighton joins the neighbouring Northumberland Stars, which play out of the Keeler Centre in Colborne.

Meanwhile, home games for the expansion Vikings will be held at the King Edward Park Arena.

Several player signings have already been announced, including Baltimore’s Wescott Hansen and Port Hope’s Waylon Morris. who both played last season for the GMHL’s Durham Roadrunners.

Their coach in Durham has also joined the Brighton club as the Vikings’ first head coach is Dennis Sicard of Cobourg.

Season tickets are on sale at brightonvikings.ca and the team has a Facebook page with player signings and other news posted.

Brighton will have a ready-made local rivalry with the Northumberland Stars, which will host the 2027 GMHL All-Star Game and are coming off their first Russell Cup championship win. Today’s Northumberland covered that GMHL title victory in March (https://todaysnorthumberland.ca/2026/03/29/video-photo-gallery-northumberland-stars-win-gmhl-russell-cup-championship/).
