Update – Belleville Police – Quinte West Man’s Charges Upgraded (Name Released)

Impaired Motor Vehicle Collision Causing Death
In connection with the motor vehicle collision that occurred on March 21st, John Golka, 49-year-old Quinte West man, was originally arrested and charged with the following offences:
· Dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm
· Impaired operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm
· Blood alcohol concentration – 80 or more milligrams

GOLKA was held for a bail hearing and has remained in custody since that time.

As the investigation progressed, the charges against GOLKA were upgraded on March 25th to:
· Dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death
· Impaired operation of a conveyance causing death
· Blood alcohol concentration – 80 or more milligrams causing death

GOLKA remains in custody.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision
On March 21st at 11:25pm, Belleville Police, Fire and Hastings Quinte Paramedics responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Dundas Street West.
A 19-year-old Belleville male was extracted from his vehicle and transported to Kingston General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
As a result of investigation, John Golka, 49-year-old Quinte West man, was arrested, charged, and held for a bail hearing.

In the afternoon of March 22nd, the 19-year-old, identified as Samuel Brown, succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation remains ongoing and updates will be provided as they become available.
