Video – Sunset at Nawautin Sanctuary in Grafton

In Local, Weather

Today (Monday, March 9, 2026) was likely a classic “false spring” in our area.

A few days of warm weather melts the snow and gets the creeks running, then winter tries to sneak back for another round.

What the next few days look like around the Northumberland County area:

Tuesday: Mild but showery, with temperatures around 9 °C.

Wednesday: More rain, possibly heavier at times.

Thursday onward: Colder air returns, with highs dropping to only a few degrees above freezing and even a chance of flurries.

Snowpack melts quickly during warm spells and since frozen ground can’t absorb much water the creeks and rivers run fast and dump into Lake Ontario.

With ice still covering parts of places like Nawautin Sanctuary, you get that interesting mix: open flowing water underneath with lingering ice sheets on top.
