Northumberland OPP – Youth Charged After Threat Reported at Secondary School

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person after investigating a reported threat involving a local secondary school in Brighton.

On February 12, 2026, shortly before 9:00 a.m., officers received information regarding a potential threat to the safety of the school.

Police confirmed that the individual associated with the threat was not present at the school, and a hold and secure was not required. Northumberland OPP advised that there was no immediate risk to the safety of students or staff.

The suspect was identified, and the OPP Crime Unit was engaged to assist with the ongoing investigation. As a result of the investigation, one youth has been charged with:

Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm.
