For the first time in 13 years, all downtown metered on-street parking spaces and paid municipal parking lots will see a $0.50 per hour rate increase beginning February 17. The weekday parking rate for paid municipal lots and metered on-street spaces, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., will rise from $1.00 to $1.50 per hour.
Parking will continue to be free after 6 p.m. and on weekends. Users with a valid accessible parking permit or veteran graphic licence plate may still park for free in any space if accessible spaces are full.
The Municipality of Port Hope regularly reviews its downtown parking rates and fees. The last rate adjustment occurred 13 years ago in 2013. Research into neighbouring municipalities shows that these new rates remain consistent with or lower than many surrounding communities. This increase encourages turnover of parking spaces, helping bring more pedestrians into the downtown core, while also generating revenue for lot maintenance, resurfacing, and other downtown infrastructure improvements.
The updated parking rates are as follows:
Hourly rate: increasing from $1.00 to $1.50
Daily maximum: increasing from $10 to $15
Seasonal pass (boat launch parking): increasing from $150 to $225 (resident) and from $200 to $300 (non-resident)
Hourly and daily parking fees can be paid through the HotSpot Parking App or with coins, credit card, debit, Apple Pay and Google Pay at all machines and meters.
