In Local

Damage is estimated at $500,000 following a house fire in the Municipality of Port Hope on Saturday, January 24, 2026.

At approximately 7 a.m., Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services were dispatched to a home on Ganaraska Road at County Road 10.

A person was driving by and spotted flames coming from the chimney.

All Port Hope Fire Stations responded to the incident. Shortly after arrival, flames broke through the roof of the home.

The two occupants were unaware of the fire until they were alerted by firefighters.

Hamilton Township was also dispatched to the scene.

With no hydrants in the area, water had to be shuttled in to the scene.

County Road 10, south of Ganaraska Road was closed due to fire apparatus.

Northumberland OPP along with Northumberland County Paramedics were also dispatched.

The cause of the fire appears to be the wood stove with the fire spreading to the roof area.
