Cobourg Deputy Fire Chief Assumes Role of Acting Fire Chief

At the next council meeting held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Ashfield will be appointed Interim Fire Chief.

Town of Cobourg Communications Manager, Jenny Neutel Manager said in a e-mail to Today’s Northumberland that Fire Chief Ellard Beaven is on a, “temporary medical leave.”

BEING A BY-LAW TO APPOINT KEVIN ASHFIELD AS ACTING FIRE CHIEF FOR THE TOWN OF COBOURG FIRE DEPARTMENT

WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Cobourg has enacted a by-law to establish the Cobourg Fire Department; and WHEREAS subsection 6(1) of the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, 1997, S.O. 1997, c. 4 requires that if a fire department is established for the whole or a part of a municipality, the council of the municipality shall appoint a fire chief for the
fire department; and

WHEREAS the Council of the Town of Cobourg deems it expedient to appoint an Interim Fire Chief.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF COBOURG ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:

1. That Kevin Ashfield be hereby appointed as Acting Fire Chief of the Cobourg Fire Department.

2. That this by-law shall come into full force on the day it is passed.

READ and finally passed in Open Council this 17th day of December, 2025.
