Cobourg Police – Police Investigate Two Driving Incidents (No Names Released)

In Police Blotter

On the evening of December 6, 2025, at approximately 11:40 p.m., police were called to a disturbance at a local restaurant. Staff advised that the involved individuals left in a vehicle, which was later stopped by officers on University Avenue West in Cobourg. The driver registered an alert on an Approved Screening Device and received a three-day license suspension. Both occupants were also trespassed from the establishment.

On December 7, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., police attended a single-vehicle collision on D’Arcy Street after a vehicle was observed travelling on the wrong side of the road and striking the central island of a roundabout. Police formed grounds to believe the driver was impaired, and subsequent testing confirmed blood alcohol levels more than twice the legal limit. As a result of the investigation, the driver was arrested, had their license suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The Cobourg Police Service encourages the public to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911. By reporting suspected impaired drivers to the police, everyone can help keep roads and waterways safe. Always plan for a safe ride home, designate a sober driver, or call a friend, a relative, or a cab.

YMCA Northumberland is running Operation Red Nose, the safe ride service, this winter. We encourage everyone to call ORN at 905-376-1207 during the evenings and hours of operation for a safe, reliable ride home. Visit ymcanrt.org/orn/ and follow the YMCA Northumberland Facebook page for more information on how their volunteers can help get you and your car home safely this holiday season.
