Cobourg Police – No Charges After Man was “Verbally Aggressive” to Cobourg Mayor

Despite being taken into custody by Cobourg Police, a man was released unconditionally following a interaction with Cobourg Mayor Lucas Cleveland.

In a press release Cobourg Police stated that on “October 22, 2025, at approximately 11:00 p.m., police responded to a call on King Street West for reports of a male being verbally aggressive and damaging a display of Halloween decorations on the property.”

The incident took place in front of Victoria Hall after special council meeting.

Police stated in their release that following the police investigation and in consultation with the “victim,” no charges were laid and the man was released unconditionally.

Mayor Cleveland released a statement on Friday afternoon stating,

“I just wanted to thank all of those who have reached out to me regarding an issue that occurred recently, regarding my personal safety . I have been overwhelmed by the kindness and concern and I wanted to say how grateful I am. I can’t discuss publicly the details regarding matters of my personal safety and security, but I would like to thank the Cobourg Police Service and Councillor Adam Bureau for their assistance. This incident, not just because it involved me personally, reminds us all that we live here in Cobourg in very different times. Again, my sincerest thanks to those who have shared their concerns for me with me. Lucas Cleveland Mayor of Cobourg.”
