Northumberland OPP – Investigating Collision on Highway 401 Near Port Hope

Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a motor vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 401 westbound near Port Hope.

On September 11, 2025, at approximately 2:00 a.m., police responded to a collision involving a tractor trailer and two passenger vehicles between Morrish Church Road and East Townline Road. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and local fire crews also attended the scene.

One driver of a passenger vehicle was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One of the vehicles was destroyed by fire, but all occupants had safely exited beforehand.

As a result of the incident, Highway 401 westbound was temporarily closed from County Road 28 while fire personnel extinguished the blaze. The roadway was partially reopened as cleanup crews cleared debris, and all lanes were fully reopened at around 3:45 a.m.
