Cobourg Cougars Fall to Newmarket in Home Opener

The Cobourg Cougars are winless through two games to start the Ontario Junior Hockey League regular season.

Coming off a 4-3 loss to the Haliburton County Huskies on Saturday in Minden, the Cougars dropped a 3-1 decision to the Newmarket Hurricanes Monday night at the Cobourg Community Centre.
Mason Goodfellow scored the lone Cobourg goal against Newmarket, assisted by Henry Wang and Carson Durnin.

Returning players to the Cougars lineup this season include goaltender Reece Herman along with Chris Brydges, Jack Foley, Wyatt Gregory and Liam Oravsky who both scored Saturday and Durnin, who is team captain.

New players include goaltender Matteo Porporino, Francesco Porporino, Richard Wang, Lincoln Edwards who scored Saturday, Goodfellow and more.

The owner/governor is Max Wang and alternate governor is John Genereaux. The new head coach replacing Connor Armour is Bruce Beechener and the general manager is Tate Philips. Tom Foster returns as an assistant coach while Andy Meth joins as assistant coach and assistant GM.

Other staff names listed include Director of Business Operations Amy Zhang, Director of Business Development Robert Porporino and Team Coordinator Catherine Jones.

The Cougars are back in action Friday night in Trenton.
