Statement from Clarington Councillor Corinna Traill

In Local

Recent media coverage has raised questions regarding a voicemail that has been attributed to me.

I want to state clearly and unequivocally: I did not create this message. I have been advised that artificial intelligence technology was involved.

Portions of the voicemail were my voice, but other parts were artificially generated. The matter is under investigation by the Peterborough Police Service.

I have not addressed this issue until now as we were working to ascertain the source of the message. We will continue to try to determine the source of the message in order to take the appropriate action.

As your elected Ward 3 Councillor, my responsibility and commitment remain to the people of Clarington. For more than a decade I have worked to represent the best interests of our community, advocate for our residents, and ensure that local decision-making reflects the values and priorities of the people I serve.

That dedication will not waver in light of these circumstances.

I respect the investigative process and will continue to fully cooperate so that the facts can be established. It is important that residents have confidence in the outcome, and I share in the community’s desire for clarity and truth.

I appreciate the many messages of support I have received during this time, and I remain focused on my work for Clarington’s residents, ensuring that our municipality continues to be a safe, thriving, and vibrant place to live.

I also wish Mr. Dingwall well in the upcoming election and look forward to putting this troubling ordeal behind us.
