Video – No Changes to Railway Crossing in Cramahe After Frankford Man Killed

In Local

It seems there are no plans to upgrade a railway crossing in Cramahe Township after a fatal collision on Monday, July 14, 2025.

Emergency services responded to the CPKC Railway crossing on Hunt Road east of Colborne shortly after 8 a.m.

A 69-year-old Frankford man was pronounced deceased at the scene after the pickup he was driving collided with a freight train at the crossing.

The crossing doesn’t have lights, signals or barriers, but less than a kilometre to the north, CN Rail has lighted crossing signals and barriers.

The CPKC crossing only has an “X” and a stop sign on a post.

A CPKC spokesperson said each grade crossing is determined by regulatory requirements and safety considerations.

“Each of the thousands of crossings along the CPKC network is individually assessed based on its unique characteristics to establish the appropriate level of protection. Transport Canada provides detailed information on the Grade Crossing Improvements, which can be found on their website,” said Terry Cunha, CPKC spokesperson.

“CPKC is committed to enhancing railway crossing safety and actively collaborates with road authorities, private entities, and crossing users to ensure compliance with Transport Canada’s Grade Crossing Regulations and Standards. Crossing safety is a shared responsibility, and it is essential for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists to adhere to the rules of the road.
