In Police Blotter

In December 2022, members of the Belleville Police Criminal Investigations Division conducted a lengthy investigation into the allegations of a sexual assault on a one-month old infant by the grandfather.

Following the conclusion of the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for a 61-year-old man from Mississauga.

The male was charged with sexual assault on a person under 16, assault sexual interference and bestiality.

The accused fled the country prior to his arrest. On the 16th of March 2025, security at the Montreal Airport contacted the Belleville Police Service advising that the accused had been arrested while re-entering the country.

With the assistance of the Surete du Quebec, the accused was transported back to Belleville where he was held for a bail hearing.

Police will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim and family
