UPDATE – Motorcyclist Dead And Passenger Airlifted Following Collision

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – On Saturday September 15, 2018 just before 8:00 p.m. the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P), along with emergency personnel responded to reports of a serious motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on Cranberry Road, south of Choate Road in Port Hope, Ontario.

Preliminary Investigation reveals that a northbound motorcycle and a southbound grey sedan collided on the Highway 401 overpass on Cranberry Road. The male driver and female passenger of the motorcycle were transported to a local area hospital with obvious trauma. The male driver died as a result of his injuries and the female passenger was transported to a Toronto area trauma center by air ambulance with serious injuries.

The driver of the motorcycle was identified as Samuel McBride, 63 years of age, of Port Hope, Ontario. Next of kin have been notified.

The OPP Traffic Collision Investigators (T.C.I) attended the scene to assist detachment officers with the investigation. The circumstances surrounding this collision remain under investigation.

Cranberry Road was closed to traffic for several hours between Choate Road and Klein Street. No other injuries were reported.

 

A motorcyclist is dead and a passenger was airlifted to a trauma centre following a collision between a motorcycle and car on the Cranberry Road bridge in Port Hope on September 15 at approximately 8 p.m.
It appears the Harley Davidson was travelling northbound on Cranberry Road and a vehicle was travelling southbound when they sideswiped just north of the Cranberry Road overpass.
The car came to a stop on the bridge over Highway 401.
When emergency services responded, it was reported one of the people on the motorcycle was vital signs absent.
Both were transports to hospital where the one person succumbed to their injuries. The other person on the motorcycle was airlfted to a Toronto hospital suffering from major injuries to their leg.
Cranberry Road was closed while OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators spent several hours examining the scene and taking measurements.
