With renovations to the second and third floor shelters spaces at 310 Division Street, Cobourg nearing completion, Northumberland County and Transition House shelter are inviting community members to a public walk-through of the facility on Monday, December 16. This drop-in event will take place between 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., where community members can explore the space and learn more about the services that will be provided.
310 Division Street includes a 24/7 warming/cooling space on the ground floor, which opened on November 13, 2024. This space offers individuals experiencing homelessness a safe place to rest, access washroom and shower facilities, do laundry, and get something to eat. This space will continue to operate year-round, providing immediate shelter during cold weather, and respite from the heat in warmer weather.
Completion of the 35 emergency shelter spaces on the second and third floors of the facility, anticipated to be available prior to the end of December, will mark the beginning of the transition to a fully operational, modernized shelter. The 10 transitional housing units on the fourth floor are expected to be available by early 2025, offering individuals longer-term supportive housing solutions.

The modernization of shelter services at 310 Division Street is a critical part of Northumberland County’s strategy to address homelessness and ensure that all community members have access to safe and dignified shelter and housing solutions.
· Ground floor: 24/7 warming/cooling drop-in space.
· Second & third floors: 35 shelter spaces providing emergency accommodation for individuals experiencing homelessness.
· Fourth floor: 10 units of transitional housing to support individuals ready to move toward permanent housing solutions.
· On-site services, including access to wellness, social, employment, and housing supports, to help individuals on their journey to life stabilization.
· Security measures are in place, including Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design features, 24/7 onsite security, and mobile security for non-emergency security inquiries, to ensure a safe environment for clients and area residents.
