Quinte West OPP – Male Charged After Attempting To Disarm Officer Additional Charges

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The OPP Community Street Crime Unit executed a search warrant on September 4, 2018 at Motel 6 located at 10 Trenton Street in the city of Quinte West resulting in additional arrests and charges of an on going investigation.

Quinte West OPP had recently investigated a series of thefts from motor vehicles as well as Break and Enters throughout the community.

A Focus Patrol, which is a concentrated effort in response to an analysis of a collection of data regarding an ongoing crime trend, was commenced in an attempt to find those responsible for the crimes.

On Sept 4, 2018 at approximately 4:12 a.m. officers from the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) while conducting a focus patrol observed a suspicious vehicle on Bayview Drive in the city of Quinte West. The officers conducted a traffic stop and approached the vehicle as the male driver fled on foot refusing to stop for police.

After a short foot chase the suspect was apprehended and taken into custody. During the apprehension the suspect resisted arrest and assaulted and attempted to disarm an officer. No injuries were sustained in the incident.

Jesse PAGE-THOMAS, 30 years old of no fixed address, was charged with:

  • Possession of stolen property obtained by Crime S.355(b) as per the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Assault Peace Officer with intent to Resist Arrest S.270(1)(b) CC
  • Disarming a Peace Officer S.270.1(1) CC
  • Trespass at Night S.177 CC
  • Theft Under $5000.00 S.334(b) CC
  • Possession of Break-In Instruments S.351(1) CC
  • Diving While Disqualified S.259(4) CC
  • Four Counts of Failing to Comply with Recognizance S.1 45(3) CC
  • Possession of Controlled Substance (Cocaine) S.4(1) contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of Controlled Substance (Cannabis Resin) S.4(1) CDSA
  • Possession of Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Cannabis Resin) S.5(2) CDSA

 

Further investigation and after the completion of the search warrant Jesse PAIGE THOMAS was additionally charged with:

  • Possession stolen property obtained by Crime S.355(b) CC (x8 Counts)
  • Theft Under $5000 S.334(b) CC (x7 Counts) and
  • Break and Enter S.348(1)(b) CC (x3 Counts)

 

Also arrested and charged was Elizabeth Janet BARRETT, 30 years of age of Haldimand County, Ontario. BARRETT was charged with:

  • Possession of stolen property obtained by Crime S.355(b) CC (x5 Counts)
  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking S.145(3) CC (x2 Counts)
  • Posses sion of Controlled Substance (Cannabis Resin) S.4(1) CDSA and

 

Both accused were held in custody for a Bail Hearing and were scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located at 15 Bridge Street West in the city of Belleville.
