Cobourg Council – Library Deals with Signage and Site Issues

Cobourg Councillor Aaron Burchat reports that a recent Cobourg Public Library Board meeting highlighted two problems – disappearing signage and problems on the grounds.

Burchat shared the update at Wednesday’s Cobourg council meeting, saying that signage posted at the facility disappears on a regular basis – signage that sets out library rules and expectations around behaviour and time-limit signs asking patrons to respect maximum time limits on the use of such facilities as the washroom, as well as information on disposing of sharps safely.

This information is aimed at diabetics, Burchat said, as well as others who must administer medication to help them dispose of supplies in such a way that maintains a safe environment for children as well as members of the public.

As for the other issue, library staff members are regular approached by people coming in frustrated, asking if they realize what’s happening outside.

“Obviously, it’s hard for staff to deal with those items as they are inside providing services,” he said.
Burchat said he has had discussions with bylaw staff to see what they can do.

“They are assuring me they will do proactive checks with regard to the site to make sure people are respecting the property, or if there are individuals that require some form of assistance,” he said.
