Northumberland OPP – Inmate Charged with Assault at Warkworth Institution

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating an assault that occurred at a correctional facility in the Municipality of Brighton.

On July 11, 2026, police received a report of an incident involving two inmates at Warkworth Institution. The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old male was charged on August 19, 2026, with:

– Assault causing bodily harm

– Assault with a weapon

– Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

– Uttering threats.

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in October.
