The Good, The Bad And The Ugly Along The Ganaraska River

It was a case of the good, the bad and the ugly along the Ganaraska River in Port Hope on Saturday, September 1, 2018.
While the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry along with Port Hope Police do their best to monitor the situation, there are still people who aren’t following the rules.
One of the bright spots of the day was Port Hope resident Eric Ackerman.
Ackerman told Today’s Northumberland he walks from the Jocelyn Street bridge to the lake each day pickup up garbage along the way.
He’s done it almost every day for the past five years.
“I would say this year the lack of garbage has improved,” said Ackerman.
“Lots of people say thanks, but the ones that thank you aren’t the ones leaving the trash.”
A bus load of tourists from Toronto had a picnic at Optimist Park and it was nice that everything was cleaned up when they left.
Rotting fish along the shoreline shows the disrespectful side of some anglers that tend to spoil it for the good ones. Gutting the fish and leaving carcasses on the shoreline for the flies to feast is something that infuriates citizens.
But as the clock tower rang at 8 p.m. all the anglers had removed their lines from the water for the evening as the bylaw states.
